What is Academic Technology?

As a student at Trinity University, we have access to an extremely useful service called Academic Technology. The Academic Technology department, formerly called the Center for Learning and Technology, is located on the first floor of the Coates Library. This department is more than just your standard computer lab. The space is ideal for exploring all forms of technology: media creation, digital collaboration, web conferencing, 3D printing, and much more. You can check out a variety of equipment to help with projects for specific classes, including iPads, flip cameras, laptops, chrome books, audio recorders, and much more. They can also help with media duplication and conversion. To learn more, check out their page on the Trinity website, or view the short introduction video below.

Academic Technology's Other Uses

The Academic Technology department is also useful for professors who are looking to integrate technology into the classroom. This may come in the form of something as simple as TLearn, the moodle website that is utilized for posting readings, assignments, and syllabi,  or something as involved as setting up a projector in a different room or using a large teleconference room.

More About Academic Technology at Trinity & In the World

Academic Technology is constantly evolving and developing as technology advances are discovered and put into use in the world around us. For example, Trinity tries to stay up to date on all of the newest 3D printing technology, which is why the Academic Technology center in the library has three different brands of 3D printers and a 3D printing "guru" or expert. This is a short video introduction 3D printing on Trinity's campus. If you are interested in learning more about the advances in 3D printing and medicine, there are a few different articles you can read into, one about creating replacement body parts, and one about 3D printed prosthetics
